Industries such as tea, wood, camphor, and mining used to be essential industries in northern Taiwan. Since the Qing Dynasty, a large proportion of exports in Taiwan island belonged to these industries. During the time of Japanese Taiwan, the management of those industries became enterprised, the development of spatial scale was even expanding to the hills and mountains. With the fluctuation and growth of different industries, it accompanied the migration and settlements change. Such as Daxi and Sanxia, which were rich in natural resources, became the distribution centers for camphor, tea, wood, coal, and other goods; also, Monga and Dadaocheng turned to be prosperous commercial areas because of the trade. In this very age, many well-known figures stood out, the forest environment was changed, and the interactions between ethnic groups were affected.
The “Taipei Info Hub” was built by Mitsui & Co., Ltd. In the time of Japanese Taiwan around Taipei City, as a warehouse for stocking trade products. The corporate was engaged in the export of tea, camphor, and wood, which were obtained from the mountains and forests of northern Taiwan (such as Xindian and Sanxia). This exhibition is showing the changes in settlement areas in different periods on the map, along with the trajectory of prosperity and decline of industrial development. We expect that the provided information in this exhibition could serve as clues for story exploration, responding to the temporal background, and stacking up more comprehensive historical perspectives.
